Au pair

When translated to English, “au pair” means “on equal terms” and throughout the world an au pair is known as a person who travels to another country, to live with a host family and care for their children in return for accommodation, pocket money and the opportunity to learn a new language and experience a new culture. This is a mutually beneficial relationship, both parties benefitting from what the other has to offer.

However, South Africa has developed its own unique and broader definition of an au pair which includes the option of South African au pairs working for local families. The au pairs that we know and rely on every day are individuals who are passionate about childcare, and provide an invaluable support system for parents wishing to have their children cared for in the comfort of their own home.

The primary duties of an au pair are to supervise your children, and see to their needs. Depending on the required scope of responsibly, an au pair can be responsible for any or all of the of the following:

Whether you require your au pair to live-in, or live out, work full time or part time, we have a range of candidates available, who have been carefully screened and selected.

Your children’s wellbeing is of paramount importance to us and once each au pair has undergone a personal interview with Handy Helpers their references are verified. We also facilitate police clearance, driving history, ID verification and other checks at your request.

Contact Handy Helpers today so that we can discuss your childcare needs and advise you on how an au pair can assist in making your daily life as stress free as possible.
